LoboMail Mailbox Copying Process FAQs

How long will we have access to our old Webmail mailbox?

Access to Webmail accounts will be disabled on Monday, April 1, 2013.

As soon as your LoboMail mailbox is activated, be sure that you have confirmed that all your messages, folders, contacts, mail filters, and Inbox rules have been copied over or re-created in LoboMail.

What is the process for copying mail from webmail to LoboMail?
- We begin by creating mailboxes in the new LoboMail system
- Once the mailboxes are created, each person's webmail content is copied into the new LoboMail mailboxes.  All your email messages and folders will be copied over.
- The copying process can take quite a while, depending on the size of accounts and amount of data being transferred.  After the initial copy is made, a nightly update process runs every 24 hours and copies over any new mail that has arrived.
- Once everything completes, we send email to users, giving the date when the new LoboMail mailboxes will be activated.
- On activation day, you will receive an email in your Webmail mailbox advising you that your new LoboMail mailbox has been activated, and containing a link to the new system.  When you log into LoboMail, you will find your webmail messages and folders there waiting for you, as well as a Welcome email, explaining the basics of the new system and giving links to additional information.
- There are some things that we cannot copy from Webmail to LoboMail.  Your Welcome letter will include information about these elements and instructions for how to re-create them as needed.  See below for additional information about what can and cannot be copied into LoboMail.
Is everything copied from Webmail to LoboMail?
All email messages and folders in your webmail mailbox will be copied to your LoboMail mailbox, with the following exceptions:
  • Messages larger than 25 MB cannot be copied to the new system.  Save large attachments to your machine and delete the email, or forward it to a different account.  If you want to keep the email message, forward it to yourself minus the attachment.  For more information on how to find large messages in your Webmail mailbox, see FastInfo #6696.  Remember to check each folder for large messages.
  • Messages marked for deletion cannot be copied to the new system.  For more information on how to find messages marked for deletion in your Webmail mailbox, see FastInfo #6697. Remember to check each folder for messages marked for deletion.
In addition, the following information from your Webmail mailbox cannot be copied to the new system:
  • Contacts - If you have any contacts in Webmail, they will be extracted for you and attached to your Welcome email. Instructions on how to import them into LoboMail can be found in see this Microsoft article
  • Vacation message - Vacation messages need to be re-created in LoboMail. Any vacation message you had on your Webmail mailbox is still visible there, so use that as your reference. To see your old vacation message, log into Webmail at http://webmail.unm.edu and click on the Rules button at the top. For more information on how to create a vacation message in LoboMail, see this Microsoft article.
  • Mail forwarding rules - The process of activating the new LoboMail mailboxes erases all forwarding rules in Webmail. If you have a forwarding rule active on your mailbox, that information will be erased, which means that your email will no longer be forwarded and you will need to re-create the forwarding rule in your LoboMail mailbox. For instructions on how to forward your mail in LoboMail, see this Microsoft article.
  • Mailbox filtering rules - Mailbox filtering rules also need to be re-created in LoboMail. Any filtering rules you have on your Webmail mailbox will remain visible in that account, so that you can use them as reference. To see your old rules, log into Webmail at http://webmail.unm.edu and click on the Rules button at the top. For instructions on how to create Inbox Rules in LoboMail, see this Microsoft article.
